About Javier Belze
Composer and mixing engineer, and the founder of dBaton — where we build real-time audio streaming tools for studios and composers.
Who is writing this
I write and mix music from a studio in Villena, on the Mediterranean side of Spain. Orchestral work is where I spend most of my time, and like everyone doing this remotely, most of my clients are not in the room with me.
That is the whole reason dBaton CUE exists. I am not writing about a workflow I read about — I am writing about the one I use every week.
Why CUE exists
Every part of a session has got better over the last twenty years except one: the moment you have to play something to the person paying for it.
You bounce, you upload, you wait, and the notes come back a day later with no context. Or you share your screen on a video call and they judge a mix through a codec built for speech, which flattens everything that matters. Neither of those is the job.
CUE is what I wanted to exist. You stay on the call to talk. They open a link in their browser and hear the session as it actually sounds, live, while you are still working on it. Nothing to install on their side, and up to eight people at once.
Why it is a plugin and not an app
Because that is where I need it. It goes on the master bus of the session I already have open — VST3, AU and AAX, macOS and Windows. Anything that asks me to leave the DAW and set something up is something I will not use at the moment the client is waiting.
Why you pay once
A tool you use for years should stop costing you money at some point. CUE is a one-time licence you own, or a rent-to-own plan that ends after sixteen payments and leaves the licence yours. There is no version of this where you stop paying and lose access to your own sessions.
Get in touch
I read everything that comes in. If you run a studio and need several licences, or something is not working the way it should, write to me directly at javier@dbaton.com.
